Asbestos Awareness for the Insurance Industry Professional – Residential Property Claims

This course sets out to provide insurance adjusters with a basic understanding of what asbestos is, where it can be found in residential homes and how the assess and discuss the risks associated with asbestos. We also cover what to expect during the inspection/abatement process and how to evaluate abatement estimates.  While this course does certify the student in regard to Asbestos Awareness Training, THIS COURSE DOES NOT CERTIFY THE STUDENT TO WORK WITH ASBESTOS

On successful completion of this course, students will have:

  • An increased awareness of the nature and properties of asbestos

  • An understanding of the health effects associate with asbestos, including the increased risk of lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke;

  • Knowledge of where to obtain information in regard to asbestos regulations;

  • A familiarity with the types, uses and likely uses of asbestos in residential structures;

  • A good knowledge of how to identify potential asbestos containing materials

  • An understanding of how to assess the risks associated with potentially asbestos containing materials found in residential homes

  • When asbestos testing is required

  • An understanding of what to expect during the inspection/abatement process

  • An understanding of how to evaluate abatement estimates
